October 10 Devotional: Wisdom That Listens

Scripture

James 1:5 — “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Vineyard Lesson

Wisdom Begins by Asking

A wise Vinetender does not assume he already knows everything the vineyard needs. He walks the rows, studies the vines, listens to the season, and remains attentive to signs that require care. The vineyard rewards humility because living things cannot be tended well by pride.

Devotional

There are moments when we simply do not know what to do. The path ahead is unclear, the options feel complicated, and our own understanding reaches its limit. James does not shame us for lacking wisdom. He invites us to ask God.

This is one of the most gracious promises in Scripture. God gives wisdom generously. He does not mock our need, resent our questions, or withhold guidance from humble hearts. He welcomes the prayer that begins, “Lord, I do not know the way unless You teach me.”

In the vineyard, assumptions can be costly. A Vinetender who refuses to observe carefully may miss early signs of stress, disease, imbalance, or need. But the wise Vinetender listens before acting. He receives what the vineyard is revealing and responds with care shaped by understanding.

Our lives require the same humility. Wisdom does not begin by pretending confidence. It begins by bringing what we lack to God. Asking for wisdom is an act of dependence. It acknowledges that God sees what we cannot see, knows what we cannot know, and gives guidance that is better than instinct, fear, or hurry.Today, do not hide your uncertainty. Bring it honestly to the Vinetender. The God who gives wisdom is not disappointed by your need. He is ready to guide the heart that asks.

Key Takeaway

Wisdom begins when we stop pretending we know the way and humbly ask the generous Vinetender to guide our next step.
