September 6 Devotional: Come and Lay It Down

Scripture

Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Vineyard Lesson

Release Makes Room for Restoration

After harvest, the vine no longer carries the weight of its clusters. With the fruit gathered, healthy leaves continue receiving light and replenishing reserves for the season ahead.

Devotional

Some burdens belong to a season; others remain because we have forgotten how to set them down or have unforgiveness in our souls. We keep carrying finished work, unresolved worries, and expectations God never asked us to hold.

The post-harvest vine offers a gracious picture. Once the clusters are gathered, it does not keep bearing their weight. Its task changes from carrying fruit to receiving nourishment. Release creates room for restoration.

Jesus says, “Come to me.” Rest begins with relationship. We bring Him what is heavy and receive His presence, wisdom, and care.

Today, name the burden that has remained on your shoulders too long. You do not have to deny its importance. Simply place it in stronger hands. The One who invites you closer is gentle, faithful, and able to carry what you cannot.

Vineyard Vision

Picture a vine just after the last cluster is gathered. Its branches are lighter, and its leaves remain open to the sun. Imagine placing your burden in Christ’s hands and hearing Him say, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.”

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for inviting me to come near with every burden. Help me release what I was never meant to carry alone. Quiet my striving, restore my strength, and teach me to receive rest as a gift from Your gentle heart. In Your name, Amen.
