Scripture
Proverbs 31:26 “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
Vineyard Lesson
Gentle Hands Protect Tender Growth
In the vineyard, tender shoots can be damaged by careless handling. A rushed movement, a harsh pull, or an impatient adjustment can bruise what is still growing. The wise Vinetender knows that gentleness is not weakness. It is strength guided by care. What is handled gently has room to mature.
Devotional
Words can either tend a vineyard or trample it.
Each of us are vinetenders of someone. Those the Lord has put in our care look to us for faithful guidance and instruction. Heavenly wisdom teaches us to consider what our words will produce.
A harsh word can become like rough handling in a vineyard. It may seem small in the moment, but it can bruise trust, damage tenderness, and stir up more conflict than the original issue required. A wise Vinetender cares for the vine gently. It does not ignore misguided growth of the vine but tenderly redirects it.
Jesus was never careless with words. He spoke firmly when needed, but even His correction was rooted in righteousness, not pride. He knew when to answer, when to ask a question, when to remain silent, and when to speak peace into fear.
Wisdom guards the tongue because words carry weight. They can refresh like water or scorch like heat. They can train a vine toward health or snap what is fragile. They can invite peace or feed anger.
Faithful instruction does not mean avoiding hard conversations. In fact, some of the most loving words are honest words. But wisdom asks, “How can I speak truth in a way that protects what God is growing?”
Think of a Vinetender tying a young shoot to the trellis. The tie must be secure, but not crushing. The movement must be intentional, but not rough. Correction and support can happen together when care leads the way.A guarded tongue is not a silent heart. It is a heart submitted to the Vinetender. It speaks after listening, answers without wounding, and chooses peace where anger would be easier.
Key Takeaway
Wisdom guards the tongue, speaking truth with gentleness so peace can grow where anger might have taken root.
