Road Trip! America is packed with so much beauty, history, and entertainment. We set out to experience autumn across the east. Part of the joy is seeing the natural beauty along the way. To maximize our scenic byway experience we used a leaf tracker to anticipate where the leaves would be most beautiful. Then we created our map.
This scenic drive tool was helpful to find the most scenic byways and shows all attractions and parks along the way.
Little Rock, Arkansas
Have lunch at the River Market District and stroll the River Sculpture Trail.
William J. Clinton Presidential Library, 1200 President Clinton Ave, exceeded expectations. It was a history review lesson and nice to reflect on America’s past. Hours were 9 am to 5 pm and it was a great value at $12 per person.
A scenic byway northwest of Little Rock led us to Pinnacle Mountain and Lake Maumelle. As we circled around the lake, the rural roads led us to Little Italy, Arkansas. We love learning the history of small towns along the way. This little town was rich with a history of five Italian families moving from Chicago in 1915. They went on to plant vineyards and developed four wineries in the community. Little Italy was a safe haven for consumption during prohibition as well.
Memphis, Tennessee
Scenic Byway from Little Rock to Memphis. We took US 70 to see the small towns along the way.
Visit Beale Street and the House of Blues BB King. Music starts at 4 pm with a cover charge. We went at 3:45 pm to eat and got to enjoy the music too. Just walk the street and listen to the music coming from every bar.
Known as the Home of the Blues and the Birthplace of Rock n Roll, it lives up to the reputation. Check out the Memphis Music Hall of Fame, too.
Nashville, Tennessee
Scenic Byway from Memphis to Nashville, TN. We took Road 100.
Check out the Country Music Hall of Fame and a concert at the Ryman Theater.
If you want to dress like Paul, check out Sam’s men shop at 227 Rep. John Lewis Way N, Nashville, TN. Cool clothes, friendly helpful staff with an eye for style, and great prices!
Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
Dollywood in autumn is amazing! 12,000 pumpkins were everywhere. Each one was hand carved by one of their staff.
We stayed on property at Heartsong Lodge, 1210 Dollywood Resort. They provide tram services from the hotel to the park and your room night includes VIP privileges for the entertainment. We saw three shows and enjoyed the rides as well as the song story about Dolly. You can call 1-888-273-4683 for more information and tickets.
