Week of October 5th – 12th 2025

Stowe, Vermont

The drive from North Conway, NH to Stowe, Vermont is a gorgeous tree-lined path filled with a patchwork of autumn color. Many of the most scenic roads follow winding babbling streams.

If you are a fan of the Sound of Music film, then you must visit The Von Trapp family lodge, restaurant, and brewery. It is situated on a hill with a view reminiscent of the movie, especially if you take the Trapp Hill Rd to get there. The Von Trapp Bierhall offered a laid back local village atmosphere with beer and pretzels.

Most people think of Stowe as a ski resort but it is inspiring year round. Driving through one of the old Covered Bridges is like stepping through a time warp. We could see ourselves in horse drawn carriage singing ‘over the river and through the woods…’

Check out Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, Cabot Cheese tasting rooms, the Stowe Farmers’ Market, Stowe Maple Products, and Mount Mansfield.

Lake Placid, NY

The Olympic Complex is excellent. We especially enjoyed the Olympic Museum where you too can ride in a bobsled and sail down the ski jump. There is also a nostalgic display of the 1980 Olympic Hockey “Miracle on Ice”.

We were blessed to be there during an Olympic trial competition and got to watch the practice sessions in the Jack Shea Arena.

While there be sure to visit Whiteface Mountain. Take a scenic drive around Mirror

Lake and to the top of Whiteface Mountain. Take an elevator 27 floors to the summit. There is a gorgeous 360 degree view at the top. Be sure to enjoy the sites in North Pole, New York, on the way and explore Adirondack State Park.

The Lake Placid Christmas Company is your spot to get just about any Christmas ornament. 2435 Main St. Ste 1

The Black Bear Restaurant right across the street provided relaxed dining on the lakeview balcony. 2409 Main St. Corner of Saranac Ave.

Syracuse, NY

Surrounded by lakes, Syracuse is a perfect picnic place. Go the Central New York Regional Market and choose from a variety of foods.

We love antique/artisan markets and look for them in every destination. The Salt City Market, held on the 2ndSunday of the month from May to October, offers a mix of antiques, art, food and more.

Stella’s Diner is a local mainstay. Its retro 50’s atmosphere makes you feel right at home. Everyone acts like neighbors, even the strangers.

Right next to Stella’s is a great Syracuse Antique Exchange Mall, 1629 N. Salina St., Syracuse, NY. It is a 4 floor antique building chocked-full of interesting antiques and collectibles.

Don’t miss the Landmark Theater, Clinton Square, and Niagara Mohawk Building as your tour the city. Take some time to relax by the Green Lake, commune with nature, and enjoy the exhibits.
